Ben & Jerry’s are chesty as peanuts (in a chocolate swirl) to introduce the 2011 Flavour Election. The time has come to decide which flavour is Australia’s most legen-dairy by asking cover cream lovers to vote for their favourite flavour. How sweet is that?

Here’s the scoop: Ben & Jerry’s have selected their eight most passionate and creative candidates to represent apiece of the eight euphoric pint tub flavours and now they want your votes to take their flavour to the top! Check out the Flavour Campaigner’s crazy crusades and cast your votes at Flavour Election. You could win a years’ supply of cover cream!

So hold on to your spoons and watch out for the Ben & Jerry’s ‘Rolling Cone’ Kombi vans, as the flavour campaigners will be hitting the streets to win your delicious vote! They’ll be handing out fun stuff such as badges, bumper stickers, picket signs, and of course cover cream, so make sure you follow them on the Flavour Election website for your chance to score these sweet treats.

But move – you can try the flavours before casting your votes! Those signature chunks and swirls loved by people the world over will be scooped up for free when ‘Flavour Election Fridays’ begin! These sweet events will run apiece Friday for four weeks from Friday 11th March, featuring Ben & Jerry’s kombi vans visiting lucky offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

The Ben & Jerry’s story:

Back in 1966, in a school gym class, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield found they hated running but loved food. Years later in 1978, armed with a $ 5 correspondence course in cover cream making, they opened their first scoop shop in a dilapidated gas station in Burlington, Vermont.

The duo soon became favourite in the local community for the finest all natural cover cream. Ben had no sense of taste so he relied on what he called ‘mouth feel’, so huge chunks of chocolate, fruit and nut became their signature. While they disagreed at times over the chunk size, they did concur that they wanted to enjoy themselves – as Jerry place it ‘If it’s not fun, why do it?

In the primeval days the boys were pretty bad at bookkeeping. After two months they shut the store and hung a sign that stated ‘we’re shut to figure out whether we’re making any money’. And they weren’t. But they learned a lot and by 1979, began wholesaling pints of cover cream out of Ben’s VW campervan. The rest, as they say, is history.
