Frugal Rv Traveling Tips: Keeping an Eye on the Road ? and your Budget

Hitting the road in your RV and the RV lifestyle can be one of the most economical ways to travel. If you do a tiny planning and research ahead of time, it’s simple to save even more – without ever feeling like you’re pinching pennies.
One obvious way to take the frugal route is to plan your RV travel during the “shoulder seasons” – before and after prime travel time – when discounts are often offered at various campgrounds and attractions.
Here are 5 cost-cutting RV travel tips that are good any time of the year:
1. RV Travel On One Tank of Gas
Remember the ending to The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy states she doesn’t have to look any further than her own backyard to find her heart’s desire? Well, we’re not suggesting camping out right outside the house, but think about going to places not too far away that you’ve always meant to check out.
You’ll be surprised at how many new and interesting destinations are just one tank of gas away. A lot of territory can be covered in just a few hundred miles, and you’re bound to discover exciting locations you never knew existed so close to home.
Tip: Your neighborhood library is a terrific resource for researching local and say information and attractions – and most of it is free!
2. Put Your RV On A Diet And Get Superior Gas-Mileage
It’s a simple fact that the less your RV weighs, the more mileage you’ll get on the road. Look around for places in your rig where you can institute a “less is more” policy.
For example, you don’t have to set out with a full, fresh water tank for your RV excursion. Take what you need for the first day’s travel, plus a small reserve, and fill up once you’ve reached your day’s destination.
Forget that bulky, economy-sized can of coffee: empty a smaller amount into an airtight plastic container that you can refill later. (One place not to cut back, though, is tire inflation: riding on fully inflated tires is a sure way to increase your gas mileage. )
Tip: When buying food staples, think about dehydrated items like soup and dried fruit, and transfer cereal and pasta from bulky boxes into heavy-duty plastic bags – not only do they take up less space, you can reuse them once they’re empty!
3. Plastic not Paper Dinnerware – A More Economical Approach Overall
Sure, the eat-and-toss approach of paper plates and cups is the simple way to go – and might even seem economical when you purchase in bulk. But lightweight, affordable plastic dishes are simple to find, and while they might not last forever, they’ll certainly see you through the duration of a long-distance RV excursion.
Choosing plastic over a huge stack of paper goods is also another way to save on weight, especially when you’re starting out on your RV trip.
Tip: Purchase your plastic ware in a mix-and-match variety of vibrant colors, and these snazzy dishes will brighten up even the simplest road fare!
4. Drive Less, Stay More – Save on Gas AND Get Campsite Discounts
When creating your RV travel itinerary, think about making fewer stops and spending more time at apiece destination. This will save on fuel and campsites costs as most of them offer discounts for lengthier stays.
By driving less and staying more, you’ll receive an additional benefit: It’s much more resting to know that once you’ve turned off the ignition you’re settling in for a while. Also, by spending more time in one place, you’ll be healthy to do some more in-depth exploring of the area.
Tip: Look online at the local newspaper for the area you’ll be visiting. Check for listings of events that you might not hear about otherwise … and don’t forget to look in the classifieds for yard income and flea markets, too!
5. Stop and Shop – At Local Discount or Dollar Stores
When you need to refill on groceries refrain supermarkets and convenience stores where prices are at a premium. Instead, look for local discount and dollar stores and roadside fruit and vegetable stands — depending on the season. You might not save much money there, but there’s nothing superior than freshly picked produce.
Keep an eye open for discount outlets in the area. And stop at flea markets and yard income where you might find a one-of-a-kind treasure. Not only do these unconventional choices offer the opportunity to find uncommon items, it’s a great way to get to know the local neighborhoods and people.
Tip: Keep your birthday and holiday gift list handy – you might spot the perfect knickknack for a family member at someone’s yard sale!
Some Final Frugal RV Travel Tips:
- Make use of the cheaper parks, like say parks
- Join Good Sam Club for 10% discount at their parks
- Subscribe to RV magazines for great ideas on RV travel
- Shop around for ideal prices on camping stuff like Wal-Mart, K-Mart, GI Joes – instead of RV stores
- Avoid buying your RV “supplies” – like toilet paper – that claim to be for RVs/motorhomes. Save money and purchase the cheap stuff.
- Save money and cook all your meals in the RV; don’t take out. You can even make dishes ahead and store in your RV’s refrigerator
- Ask for senior discounts everywhere you go
- If members of AAA, see if any campgrounds give discounts. Look at a “Trailer Life Campground Directory” at your local library to compare camping fees.
- Plan!!

How to Budget Over the Holiday’s
Holiday saving is not simple at all. In fact how many times have you found your self slap broke after the holiday’s have past? Then look no more for ways to refrain this problem that is upsetting our hungry pockets. There are three things that you must do. First off come up with a BUDGET PLAN, second open a HOLIDAY BANK ACCOUNT and third SHOP SMART. This no longer has to be you!
Things You’ll Need
* BUDGET PLAN
* HOLIDAY BANK ACCOUNT
* SHOP SMART
Budget Plan – Before doing anything we must always have a plan. It is not hard at all. Sit down and list all that you need expenses for starting with what is the most important to what is the least important. Ok, now that you have this together lets look at it again, “Come on you know that you can give up that pedicure women and men all of those cases of beer are not needed for the game”. Just kidding, now that I have your attention, look at it good and set your funds aside for your main account. This statement is going to contain all of your bills and household expenses. If you want to be a very great organizer set aside your free time expenses into your savings account. This way you will dip into your household expenses. After doing this proceed to the next step.
Holiday Bank Account – Now, this statement is for all of your holiday expenses. Gifts for all of your loved ones, the delicious dinner that is going to be cooked over the holidays and all of those toys that the kids are inactivity for. Make sure you come up with a dinner that you are not going to change because this is it. The chain and lock goes on the accounts afterwards and there is no changing. Anything that is a holiday expense categorize into one reasonable amount and this is going to go into your Holiday Bank Account. You are going to grow to love this account, because it is going to be your statement for any holidays that are due to come after you master this first Holiday “TEST”. Now, when you seeking for a bank, and if you don’t want to use your bank, find a bank that will not charge you a monthly fee. Who wants to try to build income when it is constantly being taken away? No, not me either. So look into these banks, because some of them will get you. I recommend a Credit Union if at all possible. Now you are nearly there, just hang in there.
Shop Smart – Gather all of those income papers and search online if you have online access for the holiday income and coupons. What more do we love than to know that while we are spending we are saving. You have saved up your all of the funds that you needed and deposited them into your holiday savings statement and now it is time to spend. Now, pull that list out and all of your coupons and shop accordingly. If you find yourself hot to get something turn your head, because this time it’s not about you. Review all of your receipts and make sure you are staying within your budget. It is also very good to go out and “Window Shop” ahead of time. This is just browsing around and finding what you want to get while at the same time comparing prices so when you have your mind prefabricated you will have gotten your the superior buy. Okay, how did you do? I would love to hear your comments. Pat your self on the back! You deserve it!

How to Vacation on a Budget
Been dreaming of a nice, resting pass where you can get away from it all, but felt like it just wasn’t affordable? Fear not. Having a calibre pass without going broke can be done!
Create a Vacation Budget
First, take a good look at the household budget. Then decide how much it will be doable to budget for a vacation. Approach saving for a pass as if budgeting for any other bill; view it as a necessity. If the temptation to spend the money on other things is a concern, set up a separate savings statement specifically for the trip.
Make a conscious decision to set aside to 0 or more apiece month. This can be reached by eliminating unnecessary expenses like dining out frequently. When shopping, try using coupons, buying generic, and taking advantage of sales. Look into car-pooling or taking the bus to work. Go through old items lying around the home and have a yard sale. Put each dollar attained or saved toward the pass goal.
Research Low Cost Fares and Lodging
While the pass fund is building, decide on a destination. Will this pass be done by driving, flying, or traveling by train or boat? Research travel prices, including off-season travel, promotions, and advanced ticket purchases. Traveling midweek and avoiding peak travel times can save a bundle. Save even more money by traveling with a friend and splitting the costs.
Decide ahead of time how much money to set aside for souvenirs, admissions to attractions, on-the-go dining, and lodging. Skip the costly hotel and aim for a less costly one. Most of the pass will be filled with sightseeing and entertainment away from the hotel, so the room shouldn’t be a major factor.
Camping at say and national parks can save money as well. Most parks have electricity and water hookups right at the camp site. Freshening up after a long day of exploring the sights is just a short achievement to the showers, and some parks even wage laundry rooms!
Make Each Penny Count Towards the Vacation
Getting around doesn’t have to be costly if one takes advantage of public transportation. Take a cycling or travel tour and really experience the sights. While exploring, don’t forget to stop off at the local visitor’s center and pick up a few discount coupon books. The valuable coupons in these books can really save huge money.
Stumped on ideas for affordable souvenirs? Check the local thrift stores and flea markets for discarded souvenirs. The people back home don’t have to know where their souvenir, just that it was picked up while on vacation. And don’t forget the camera. After the trip those pictures can be turned into an iron-on for a T-shirt and then it will be a very one-of-a-kind keepsake.
While checking out the thrift stores, look for used luggage. People usually wind up with more stuff than they brought, and an extra bag is perfect for carrying all that loot home. With a tiny planning a successful pass is doable and no one will go broke trying to make it happen. So go ahead, take that pass and enjoy it.
