Insider Travel Tips for your Christmas Holiday in Rio De Janeiro

Get the most out of your exciting holiday in this mythologic city, pay attention to some sound travel tips from those in the know.
Arriving in Rio at Christmas time might sound like the holiday you have always longed for, but only sufficient planning and some key bookings prefabricated really primeval on in the year will ensure you get to truly enjoy those main festive days, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve. Whatever your budget, your age or the number in your travel group, your time, money and opportunity will be wasted if you have to spend hours in travel agents or tourism offices once you are in Rio, trying to get from A to B.
If this is your first time in Rio city and you want to spend only 2 or 3 days taking in the “must see” tourists sights before heading off to famed festive resorts outside the city such as Búzios, Petrópolis or south along the Costa Verde to Paraty, then forward booked accommodation in all resorts and pre arranged transport to and from is vital. Pressure is always on accommodation in resort towns at this time of year, some bookings are prefabricated a year in advance, for peace of mind; don’t even think about chancing it once you get there. Unless you have driven the motorways in Rio or Sao Paulo like a local, hiring a rental automobile and driving to your out-of-Rio destination any time from mid December to late Jan is a crazy idea. Traffic gridlock (for hours, really) in new Rio summer heat, getting lost because you can’t read those vital road signs is just so simple to do. Depending on your budget, a tour package with transfers included, with English talking driver, or a taxi and bus ride with dictionary in hand, will get you there safer and faster.
Dress for the heat, the sun and the crowds appropriately. Carry at least a litre of bottled water with you when out travel locally and when travelling to and from your resort destination in buses or tourist vans. Keep your carry on bags, backpacks and last minute souvenirs to a minimum size and weight. There is never enough space for both you and your bags to be comfortable on board.
Finally, a word to the wise on the say of your stomach. With all that rich festive food and the heat, now is not the time to test the spicy street stalls, those glorious snacks from Bahia or the exotic fish dishes (moquecas) from Espírito Santo. Go simple on those caipirinhas!

Charles Dickens’ book “A Christmas Carol”, published in 1843 did much to revive the holiday that was to instill goodwill and compassion. Washington Irving also wrote short stories about Christmas and the “Twas the Night Before Christmas Poem by Clement Clarke.
There was great controversy in the 20th century over the nature of Christmas (was it a religious holiday or was it a secular holiday). The issue was brought to trial several times to decide because of the view that a federal holiday was a violation of separation of church and state. On December 6th, 1999, the verdict for Ganulin vs. United Says declared that “the establishment of Christmas Day as “a legal public holiday does not violate the Establishment Clause because it has a secular purpose.” This decision was later upheld on December 19, 2000 by the U.S. Supreme Court. Many christians believe the holiday has become too secular and it is common to hear cries of “getting back to the true meaning of Christmas” around the holidays.

Inexpensive Christmas Decorating, Decorate Your Home for the Holidays!
Did you know that NORAD tracks Santa’s journey each Christmas eve? Santa hasn’t left yet but you can still visit NORAD for fun and updates. NORAD Santa Tracker and other Christmas Trivia.
It’s time to break out the tinsel and string up the lights because the holidays are here! There is no end to the possibilities when it comes to decorating. Whatever you can come up with WORKS! You don’t have to fuss over matching and consistency of design. Everything to do with the holiday season works together, no matter the color, the theme or the reason you celebrate. Have fun with it; don’t stress over it; decorate with what you like; and celebration like it’s 2009!!
Here are some recommendations for decor that you might not have thought of and that might set you on your way and place you in the mood for some decorating fun!
Start with your dining room table. The more miscellaneous goodies sitting on it, the better. Grab a holiday plateau cloth and some placemats at your local department store (Wal-mart) and you are on your way!
Candle holders for small candles such as tealights are affordable and give your home a cozy feel when place in each room. If you can’t find them with a holiday theme, visit your local thrift store and grab some colored glasses and place tealights in them.
Set things on your kitchen counter. A holiday cookie jar, a white candle and a Santa calendar to count down the days make this kitchen counter very festive!
A pitcher and glasses mismatched and pieced together from the local thrift store can be functional OR decorative. If you don’t want to use them for holiday drinks, simply place shiney balls or tinsel in them!
If you can’t think of ways to make your kitchen festive, just place some holiday snacks in a basket!
Counting down the days until Christmas isn’t just for the kids. The countdown calendar in this pic is a Dollar Store find. If you can’t find one, make one! Construction paper and beans, or garland and some imagination can do the trick!
You can never have too many candles. Just putting easy tealights in a dish creates a holiday mood. You can make your own oil candles using a cotton ball and oil. Put it in a colored glass and voila! Instant holiday candle.
Do you have an assortment of holiday tins that have accumulated over the years? Set them about your house. These in the pic are playing cards and paper coasters.
Use an affordable Christmas train to go around your tree. The children love it and the cats go nuts!
Spice up that cheap plastic wreath with some cheap plastic balls hanging from a string! Top with a bow.
Frosty the Snowman has to be part of the holiday. It doesn’t matter what he’s prefabricated of, how huge he is, or how much he costs, just make sure he’s invited!
There’s no reason you can’t hang a wreath from the light fixture in your hallway! No light fixture? Use a pushpin!
Some people end up with waaay too many Santa hats. They seem to multiply from year to year. These are laying on the pool plateau and guests are encouraged to wear one when they visit, and encouraged to take one home.
Don’t forget to decorate your doorknobs. Nothing to huge and heavy or awkward though.
What about the refrigerator? Magnets! You don’t have to purchase them, you can make them. The one on the top is a half walnut, googly eyes and felt glued together with a magnet back to make a attractable fridge mouse!
The mantle can be easy or cluttered. This one is easy but a cluttered Christmas mantle is OKAY! Just make sure you don’t place anything on it that can’t take the heat of a fire!
Dig out your Christmas and holiday movies and keep them near the DVD player and the remotes.
Put your holiday music in a decorative basket and keep it near the player.
Cloth napkis, plastic garland and plastic napery holders work as a Great decoration on your plateau too!
Even silly styrofoam plates add an air of festivity when just sitting on the countertop.
Are your silk plants just sit there looking very UN-holiday? Decorate them with some silk poinsettias.
Back in the kitchen, don’t forget the hotpads/potholders!
The old Coca-cola Christmas Santa is always fun. It doesn’t matter what he’s on, he’s great to have around!
A sleepy Santa needs a special warm place on the hearth.
Everyone has an unsightly chair. Throw an affordable tree skirt on it and suddenly it’s a FUN chair! I think I’ll leave that one on that chair all year!
Invest in a pair of holiday socks with jingle bells. OR, you can sew jingle bells on ANY socks!
Frosty lends a hand in the kitchen as a spoon rest.
No holiday can have too many stuffed animals. Put them in your window sills, or………
Dig out the old nostagic toys for decor. Remember Wishniks?
Towels don’t have to be functional; just hang one over the compartment door!
Of course you will want functional holiday towels!
As in each holiday, you should have a toy table. Books, toys and coloring books for the tiny ones, or huge ones, to enjoy. Glitter some pine cones and place candles in a holiday paper plate with plastic garland around them for decoration. Of course, you might not want to light those candles if the children are after the toys!
Decorate your tree with handmade decorations. Some of the things on this tree are pine cones with red yarn, reindeer prefabricated from clothespins and Simple Pipe Cleaner Ornaments!
Top your tree with a huge red bow!
The outside doesn’t have to be complicated or costly to be fun. strings of 150 lights makes this whole front light up delight about worth of lights!
Happy Holidays!!!!!!
